Yes, you can bore out a 305 gm (General Motors) engine. Boring involves increasing the diameter of the engine's cylinders to allow for larger pistons, which can improve performance by increasing displacement. However, it's important to consider the engine's overall condition and any potential limits on how much it can be bored without compromising its structural integrity. Always consult a professional or a trusted mechanic for specific guidance on your engine.
No, you silly goose, the 2.3 liter 140 CI ford engine has a bore diameter of 3.78" and the Chevy 350 has a bore diameter of 4.0 inches... :)
easiest method is to pull the head and measuure the bore and check with the local machinist
Im not sure the maximum but I think you can bore out to at least 361.
The 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 typically comes with a 2.4L inline-four engine (LD9). Engines from 1995 to 2002 Cavalier models with similar specifications can fit, including the 2.4L engine from other GM vehicles like the Pontiac Sunfire and Oldsmobile Alero of the same era. It's crucial to ensure compatibility with the engine's electronics and mounting points during installation.
In GM trucks or new GM cars, the 8th digit of the VIN # is the Engine.
The GM engine casting number 3870010 is associated with the small-block V8 engines produced between 1968 and 1979. This casting typically denotes a 350 cubic inch (5.7L) engine, but it can also be found in 327 (5.4L) configurations. The block is made from cast iron and features a 4.000-inch bore and a 3.48-inch stroke. It was commonly used in various GM vehicles, including Chevrolets, Buicks, and Pontiacs.

(In 1999 the 2.4 or LD9 didn't have an egr valve on the 1998 LD9 the egr valve is on the tranny side of the motor towards the front of the car.) This answer is only partially correct.... Your car may or may not have one. Gm switched half way through 99 to a non EGR setup. So... Some had it and some didn't. IF you do have one it is extremely easy to find. It is on the front, top, driver side of the engine(just a few enchis from your battery). Just next to the Black blastic intake manifold. Look for a Black round plastic device mounted on top of a metal triangular part, that has a metal flex tube coming off the front of it. Bingo, EGR. If there is nothing there then your car is mid 1999 and up with no EGR.
