An accumulator does just that...accumulates liquid refrigerant to keep from flooding the expansion valve or compressor. It can also be used as a muffler on compressor noise.
On the top of your air conditioning accumulator "can" covered with a plastic cap. You will find the accumulator on the passenger side of the engine, roughly 5 inches from your heater/air conditioning electric fan motor.

The air conditioning recharge valve on the 2003 Ford Explorer 4.6 is located on the low pressure side of the air conditioning system. Located on the line coming from the accumulator to the compressor is the recharge valve.
To change the air conditioning accumulator on a 2000 Toyota Avalon, first, ensure the system is properly evacuated to remove refrigerant. Disconnect the battery, then locate the accumulator, typically found near the firewall. Remove the mounting bolts and disconnect the lines attached to the accumulator, taking care to replace O-rings for a proper seal. Install the new accumulator, reattach the lines and bolts, recharge the system with refrigerant, and reconnect the battery.
Depending on year it will be located on the accumulator near the firewall........
In a hybrid vehicle equipped with electronic air conditioning, the accumulator (or ACCM) is typically located near the evaporator within the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system. It is usually situated in the engine compartment, close to the compressor and the condenser. The accumulator's role is to store refrigerant and manage moisture, ensuring the air conditioning system operates efficiently. Its exact position can vary by make and model, so consulting the vehicle's service manual is recommended for precise location information.
Its on top of the a/c accumulator....................
