Most likely something around 12 mm or !/2 inch. Try slipping various wrenches on till you find the correct securely fitting one. This will broaden your knowledge of how to fix autos. - Oh, one other hint on removing hood hinges or latches. -They must go back in exactly the same position, so I always run a 'Sharpie' around the edge of the plate, to ensure correct re-fitting.

Just had this happen to me... hope you don't mind unbolting stuff. I had my car parked for a year, and the latch had rust shut. The hood release cable wasn't able to budge the release at all. Unbolt the bottom bolts and screws of the front fender. That should leave the top part under the hood still attached. You should be able to pry the bottom part of the fender enough to work on the latch from under the car. Pull off the bottom part of the fender as much as you can. Go underneath the car and locate the hood latch. Take a 10mm wrench and remove the three bolts holding the latch in place. Remove the hood release cable from the latch. The hood should open now. The fiero front hood release cable has an extra cable tucked inside the release lever housing. If they're both broke then you'll have to use a crowbar and lightly pry up on the hood but be extremely carefull not to break the fiberglass hood. Take a long flat tipped screw driver and remove the foam padding around the latch then take a 10mm stubby wrench and remove the 2 bolts holding the latch to the car then just raise the hood and trip the latch. Remove the old cable and install a new one.
Take the door panel off, you have to loosen the 3-4 large bolts holding the latch, once that is free, you can adjust it. jr
