Viper00721Hey I have an 86 camaro Z28 and yes its in the tank and an easy way to change it instead of dropping the exhaust, rearend and tank Is under the carpet where the hatch is that's actually the tank right there u can pull back the carpet and cut a simple 10inch square right in the middle of the metal and it reaveals the sending unit and all the hoses and you can just simpley work on it from there saved me about 600dollars in labor charges.
Answergood luck but if it is fuel injected then it is in the tank in which case buy a haynes manual for ur car or the firebird and it will tell you how to change the pump my 85 gta i hat to remove part of the exhaust and on a irok it might be the same but total it onlyu took me around 5 hours and i had it running like a dream againNo
