The speedometer cable connection is on the transmission tail shaft housing, drivers side. They went electric (no cable) in 1988 in the trucks.
Check the side around the tailshaft.
To replace the speedometer cable in a 1983 GMC Vandura, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety. Remove the speedometer head from the dashboard by unscrewing it and gently pulling it out. Next, locate the speedometer cable at the transmission, disconnect it, and remove the old cable from the housing. Install the new cable by reversing the process: attach it to the transmission, feed it through the housing, and reconnect it to the speedometer head before securing everything back in place.
no fuse, it is cable driven, not electronic
If the transmission a computer shifting transmission, then you need to hook up the eltronic speed sensor to be able to read speedometer. The gear reading is on the dash column, in which a wire hooks to the steering column.
its on a 93 GMC Sierra Pick up it was working fine and then just one day it just quit
On a 2002 GMC Envoy, the speedometer cable is typically located at the transmission, where it connects to the speed sensor. The cable then runs up into the dashboard to connect to the speedometer gauge. Some models may use an electronic speed sensor instead of a traditional cable, so it's essential to check the specific configuration for your vehicle. If you're having issues, inspecting the connection at both the transmission and the dashboard is a good starting point.
It shouldn't have one. The speedometer should run off a signal from the vehicles computer.
How to adjust the linkage on cable from steering column to transmission on a 1995 GMC Van?
in newer vehicles such as yours it doesn't have a speedometer cable, its all electronic in place of the cable theirs a sensor on the transmission on the drivers side behind the shifting bracket, your sensor is probably bad, or even worse the gauge cluster may be bad. Its not like it used to be just replace 1 gauge, or a cheap cable it a expensive sensor or a even more expensive gauge cluster
On a 2000 GMC Savana 1500 series van, the speedometer sensor is typically located on the transmission, specifically on the driver's side, near the tail shaft. It is usually mounted in the transmission case and connected to the vehicle's speedometer and ECM (engine control module) via a wiring harness. To access it, you may need to lift the vehicle and remove any necessary components for better visibility.
I have a '87 GMC Rally STX van, but I think the vehicle speed sensor is similar; The sensor is located just behind the speedometer in the instrument cluster on the dashboard. You access it by removing the instrument panel (carefully). You will need to disconnect the speedometer wire and the electric socket before pulling the instrument cluster out. The vehicle speed sensor is a very simple and reliable component. Not likely to fail. From what you say about the speedometer 'shutting off', I would be inclined to think there is something wrong with the speedometer wire. This component won't last for ever and is probably worn out. Unless your transmission is electronically controlled (don't think the '92 models were), I don't think replacing the speedometer wire will address your transmission problem. I believe that is sorted out within the automatic transmission unit. The TV-cable must be intact and correctly adjusted for the transmission to shift correctly. The TV-cable connects the throttle with the gear-box. Hope this is helpful information.
Probably a faulty speed sensor, it is mounted on the rear of the transmission on the drivers side.
