The dust particals sticks on the wires where from it sense the flow of air mixture.
It's on the side of the transmission, had 2 wires and looks like a little black cylinder.

On a 19 year old vehicle I would suspect you have a vacuum hose that is leaking. Replace all under hood vacuum hoses.

Tail of the transmission. Drivers side.2 wires One 10mm. Pull it straight out. There will be some resistance from the seal. I did it last night.
Normally the wires and plug in can be purchased at the GM dealership. Will have to cut the wires back if they are melted and solder the wires together. Can also use a heat shrink butt connector to connect wires. Recommend the heater resistor be replaced and the heater blower motor be checked for wear or noisy bearings.
