it should be just to the right(if your facing the engine) of the water pump attached to the timing chain cover, real close to the harmonic balancer if it is a truck your working one it is hard to see and get a timing light close to because of the a/c compressor and the Power Steering pump belt i just retimed my 85 c-10 and i removed the fan a/c compressor and the power steering pump so i counld get the correct angle to the tab on my truck i could not read the marks anymore so i put a new tab on my you can get them at autozone or napa they should stock them and they install using two of the timing chain cover bolts but then you also have to find your TDC on you number one cylinder and mark it a zero on the timing tab or buy some timing tape and put it on the balancer at TDC
The easiest way is to look at the Harmonic Balancer. The 305 has a wider thicker balancer than the 350. Pus the timing tab on a 305 is located ON the timing cover and the 350 is bolted on the with the cover bolts. Riky9
there will be a timing mark on the harmonic balancer. and a timing tab on the timing chain cover. point your timing light at the timing tab and you should see the timing mark on balancer. if not timing is way out.markstang.
line up timing marks from harmonic balancer and timing tab on timing cover
you can purchase an aftermarket timing tab which bolts to the timing cover.
The best way to find 6 degrees on a 1969 Olds 350 Rocket timing tab is with a diagram which can be found in a repair manual. The timing markings are on the pulley.
#1
The timing marks are on a tab adjacent to the harmonic balancer.
Could be the balancer has slipped, or maybe you have a mismatch between the crank, balancer, or timing tab. There were years where the timing is checked from the 2 o'clock position, and years where it's checked at 12 o'clock.
The timing tab will be drivers side, right abover the bottom pulley. The dampner will have a slot cut accross it's surface. Via strobe, or timing light, these two will line up.
30 degrees dwell, timing is the second mark above the O mark on the timing tab.
Thay all did in the 80s
On the flywheel. Match the ball which is I believe around 5 degrees with the tab. Timing marks are through access hole with tab on passenger side.
