Just a bizarre thought that it might have something to do with the elevation of Denver - hence the moniker, "Mile High City". New York may have taller buildings (although being home to the tallest buildings in the world is a bit misinformed - the two tallest skyscrapers in the USA (ranking 9th and 12th in the world) are both in Chicago, while New York's tallest skyscraper - the Empire State Building - ranks 22nd amongst the world's skyscrapers (11th if you count the antennas, which are a non-architectural extension).
