BAD IGN SWITCH
To change the ignition key cylinder on a 1976 Chevy Nova, first disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Remove the steering column cover by unscrewing the screws, then locate the ignition switch assembly. Use a suitable tool to release the retaining clip and pull out the old ignition cylinder. Finally, insert the new cylinder, reassemble the column cover, and reconnect the battery.
you need the key to get it out unless you a car thief.
In 74 Chevy went to the HEI system. Prior to that just points.
