The gas cap may not be tight enough or defective. Tighten it until you hear 3 clicks. If the light stays on replace the cap.
I had the same problem on my 2002 Ford Explorer, after I replaced the gas cap the light turned off
Check your gas cap.
The EVAP system detects a leak. Many times a loose or faulty gas cap causes that.
To reset the check fuel cap warning on a 2002 Ford Ranger, first ensure that the fuel cap is securely tightened. If the cap is properly closed and the warning light remains on, disconnect the vehicle’s battery for about 15 minutes to reset the system. Reconnect the battery, and the warning light should turn off. If the light persists, consider checking the fuel cap for damage or replacing it.
You probably have an EVAP system leak. The fuel cap could be loose or faulty.
if you filled up withfuel and the car was running this light comes on if not check and see if fuel cap is tight it will reset itself the fuel cap must hold a vaccume in the fuel tank
because either the cag cap is left loose, the seal around the cap is bad, or there is a severe vapor leak in the fuel tank or filler neck area.
Most definately. Tighten the cap and after a few driving cycles, the light will go off if that was the culprit.
first be sure it's the check engine light not the oil light big difference between the two. if it is the check engine light and the car was ran with the gas cap off it detected a evaporative emissions leak from the gas recirculation circut if you put the gas cap on and drive for approx one week the light may reset it self
Check for a torn seal on the cap, look for cracked or disconnected hoses around the tank and engine.
Could be something as simple as your gas cap not being tightened. You need to put the gas cap on and tighten it at least 3 clicks.
Check your pcv valve or your gas cap :P
