I'm researching this myself. I contacted the Japanese consulate and they are a definite NO. It must be completely expunged (which is impossible in US now, it's on record for life and thus with the FBI for consulates checking abroad). I know Japan is a major employer for teaching English, but I'm trying to find other countries. Post here if you find any that will take you on a work visa, b/c I don't know either. You must ask the actual consulate of that country to be sure. I know you can't even visit Canada with a DWI (and vice versa for the US from Canada). It sucks.
Having a DWI on your record can make it difficult to become a teacher in Texas. Background checks are required to teach in Texas and a DWI could cause a person to be disqualified for a teaching position.
The criminal charge of DWI can be expunged but the DMV record can NOT. DWI convictions are a permanent part of your lifelong driving history record.
DWI/DUI offenses become a permanent part of your driving record.
how long dose a dwi or DUI stay on your record in New Jersey
How long does a DWI stay on your driving record in Connecticut?"
DWI will always remain on your drivers record. Your drivers record doesn't ever "go away." It is a permanent record of your driving from the first day that you were issued your first license.

DWI's can stay on your license now for up to 10 years.
You can go to dmv.com to search for auto insurance by checking the DWI box.
