I just called the customer service department for this product. And they are telling me that they do not need to be turned off, it is only a fumigator so it is safe to keep the pilot lights on, I have an older stove with pilot lights as well and a little concerned, I will be setting off tomorrow the fumigators tomorrow. Hope this helps you out.
