To change the harmonic balancer on a 1992 Oldsmobile Ciera, first disconnect the battery and remove the serpentine belt. Then, unbolt the harmonic balancer using a socket wrench and puller, if necessary, to detach it from the crankshaft. Clean the mounting surface, install the new balancer, and torque it to the manufacturer's specifications. Finally, reattach the serpentine belt and reconnect the battery.
The harmonic balancer must be removed to change the sensor because the crank position triggering rings on the back of the balancer are entwined with the pick-up, Sorry
harmonic balance has left hand thread
harmonic balancer has threaded holes for attaching the proper puller.remove big nut from shaft then use whell puller
It is located behind the harmonic balancer, also called the vibration dampener.
i have a 92 bonn. and my car wasnt starting and it turns out it WAS the crankshaft sensor and the harmonic balancer
probably damaged the crank sensor, or the tangs on the harmonic balancer
remove serpentine belt, turn crank with ratchet to align an open space on sensor which is behind harmonic balancer, disconnect plug on sensor, remove the 2, 13mm bolts and slip it out. put new one in by looking straight down behind harmonic balancer and see that the bands slip through the magnetic sensors without touching, tighten small 8mm screw which sets it in place, around 30 lbs. torque.
loosten distributer bolt, point the timin light at the timing grid on the harmonic balancer and turn the distributer to either advance or retard the timing.
You'll need to take the harmonic balancer off and remove the timing cover to see it. Often you need to remove the timing belt to get it out.
That is true, you could have tried it. Check by the harmonic balancer or near the oil filter. Their is a bolt of some sort that blew out on mine.
Inside the fuel tank.
It's behind the glove box.
