I believe you have a Type 2 DIS ignition system (three coils on a V6 engine or 2 coils on a 4-cyl.) To remove a coil with Type 2 DIS, first remove the two spark plug wires, then the two bolts. I believe the head of the bolts is 5.5mm but it might be 7mm. My mind is a bit foggy from old age.
looking at the ignition coils from left to right (passenger to drivers side). First coil: 5 2 Second coil: 3 6 Third coil: 4 1
Beneath the coils. There are 8 coils. 4 on each side. Remove the coils (gently), then remove the plus.
You unplug, unbolt and remove the coils. The plugs are under the coils.
You have to remove the coils, no trick there.

Disconnect the battery. Remove the ignition coils. Remove the ignition control module that was under the coils, and replace it.
They are under the coils. You have to remove the coils to access.
Remove each of the coils then remove and replace the plugs
Remove one double coil and pull out the two coils gently.
They are under the 6 ignition coils. There is a coil for each spark plug. You have to remove the coils, and then remove the plugs.
The coils are bolted to the side of the engine, The spark plugs are under the coils, NO PLUG WIRES. unbolt the coils and use A spark plug socket.
