I was told by a friend the he actually beat on it from behind with a sledge hammer until it broke, then he could remove the remaining pieces,

AnswerI just removed from a 1999. jacked up both rear tires and placed in neutral so i could turn the wheel. Sprayed around lug holes and rotated wheel so spray would spread underneath rotor.

beat on rotor from behind while rotating wheel.

then i took a 2' crow bar, placed tib of it against the back part of bracket that hold top of brake pads, and pulled back so it would pry against rotor outwardly, i kept rotating wheel and prying this way until it finally came loose. I did take a torch to the rotor first and heated it up but I don't think that helped much.
