it has nothing to do with your motor. your problem is your syncros in your tranny are going out. when you cant engage the gear at all then the synco is totaly f'ed up. the fix..... replace or get your tranny rebuilt. im having the same problem im just swapping my dx tranny for a si tranny

its your tranny, you probably damaged the teeth on 1st gear or your syncros went out, if all gears are not going in then its your clutch

sounds like you've blown your clutch or the syncros are fried, bring it to a tranny shop.

What year? Manual or automatic tranny? If you have a manual the syncros are probably bad, or your linkage need adjustment, or your clutch needs adjustment or the hydraulic linkage (if so equiped) need work. If you have an automatic, especially a 4-speed automatic, it's either overdue maintenance, has been abused, or just generally needs to be rebuilt or replaced.
