RE: What does "Love truth, but pardon error" mean?

If you look up the definitions for TRUTH and ERROR, you'll find that they have a couple of different meanings. Voltaire lived in the 18th century (1694--1778). Back then people used different meanings for words than what we use today.

"Love TRUTH (honesty; integrity; truthfulness), but forgive ERROR (wrongdoing; sin)." It means give praise when people do good, but when people do things wrong, we should try hard to forgive them because all people make mistakes.
