How do you know the rings are good ? If the rings are good then the only thing left that would cause it to burn oil is the VALVE SEALS in the heads are bad and the valve guides are worn out too.

There is no oil on the plugs, and the compression is where it should be. Is is possible to burn 1 qt every 300 miles with bad valve guides?

Need to know the year of the engine, Yes it is possible to use that much oil with bad valve seals and guides. Do you have aftermarket valve covers on the engine ? NEUTZ.

1988. No, original covers, and no oil leaks from there or the pan. It is burning it, as it smokes like it needs rings. It has 78000 original miles.

Does the engine have a miss ? It could be sucking oil through the intake gasket but that is rare, Have seen it a few times. Oil returns in the head could be stoped up causing oil to be sucked through the valve guides, But that's not very common on a 350 either unless the engine oil has not been changed often. You will need to pull the valve covers off to make sure that oil is not standing in the heads around the valve springs. Just because it has good compression does not mean that you don't have a broken oil ring. Oil ring and compression rings are two different things. You can still have good compression with bad oil rings. You also need to make sure that the oil reflector under the valve cover where the PCV valve goes is still in place. If it is not then the push rods in that area will squirt oil up on the PCV valve and the PCV valve will suck the oil into the intake and burn it. Check these things out and let me know.
