The recommended oil type for a 1997 Toyota Corolla is 10 W 30. If the car is used in places of extreme cold weather, the oil type 5 W 20 can be used.
If you mean W as in 10W30 motor oil, it stands for Winter. The thickness of those oil changes with the temperature- they are not as thick (viscous) in cold weather, but get thicker as they warm up. Makes it easier to start the engine in cold weather.
depends where you live. i put 0W40 or 5W30 in mine depends on your weather
