On a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora, the starter is located on the rear side of the engine, near the transmission. To access it, you'll typically need to lift the vehicle and may have to remove some components, like the air intake duct, for better visibility and access. The starter is bolted to the engine block and connected to the battery and ignition system.
It's under the intake manifold. Remove that & the starter is accessible.
Aurora 3.5 - the sensor is on the front of the engine, on the right side, up behind the starter. You can see it from the bottom looking up, but you have to remove the starter to get it out. The Aurora 3.5 has a single dual sensor. The Aurora 4.0 has two separate sensors.
The starter will cost you around $170 + tax. Labor will be around $75, for a total of around $245.

The starter is under the intake manifold.
Have fun replacing it, that's all i have to say. To replace the starter, either the whole engine or the whole transmission must be removed, since the starter is enclosed where the engine meets the transmission, just above the rear seal.

Go to www.autorepair.about.com and search on "crank sensor aurora 3.5 2001". One of the hits will be a diagram showing the sensor above the starter. There is also a link to the replacement procedure and tells how to do a "relearn" after replacing the sensor. r
