Sounds like the idle valve needs adjusting, it's likely that the timings are out and needs adjusting which takes minutes to do. If the engine timing is not set around 700 - 950 rpm then it could be too low to support the engine to run. It's like having an automatic choke on older vehicles where you apply more choke till engine is warm enough
No, you may have to check your idle. You can change the idle so when you put it into gear it will not die. You must make sure that the engine is warm when you adjust the idle or it may make it hard to start when the engine is cold. When it idles in park or neutral it should sound a little higher than when it it idles in gear or drive or reverse.
You might need idle speed adjustments. Check and adjust your valve clearances. You might also have a restriction in the intake or exhaust.
If it drives fine but dies without warning while slowing down I'd bet on ICM.
My 89 jeep Cherokee surges at idle and sometimes stalls but runs fine once you are going what could cause this?
IF IT IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR, THEN IT SOUNDS AS IF YOUR CLUTCH IS BAD/WORN OUT.
on newer cars with fuel injection if fuel pump sterts getting weak it could cause that happened to me
Probably a bad idle air control valve.
Posssibly the idle is too high. TAke the idle solonoid off of the throtle body and clean it.
It could be your fuel filter needs replaced or possibly your fuel pump itself is on its way out. I would try replacing the fuel filter first.
the fuel injection units crap out and start to leak. there is a rough idle, it will run smooth up to a point and after stopping, it will take a minute to fill the thing to start. the part is rather expensive (375.00 from lmc truck) but it is only held together with ten bolts and a gasket...
There may be a problem with the oxygen sensor that would cause this issue. There may also be a problem with the idle arm censor as well.
The most common problems are usually vacuum related. Try checking the pcv valve. If that isn't it it could also be something like the idle air controller. This is supposed the regulate air around the throttle plate when it is at idle. Also try running some good injector cleaner through the tank. I like using Sea Foam. I have seen bad spark plugs cause rough idle. It really could be caused by several things. Anyway, I hope this helps.
