Stamps are not based on distance, but rather on weight. Therefor, 1 stamp should be plenty of postage for a standard letter.

If the mail piece is within normal letter regulations it should only cost a standard stamp (.44 cents). If it is a little heavier than normal, you might want to try using two stamps or .68 cents worth of stamps

It depends on how much it weighs. A typical letter will take enough stamps to equal the First Class rate, which is currently 44 cents.
