How do you make glitter nail polish?

nail polish is generally an acrylic polymer dissolved in a solvent such as acetone or ethyl acetate along with added pigment to give it color. It's not really something you can whip up in your kitchen using stuff you have lying around, though it wouldn't be a big surprise if there were kits available. If the reason you want to make your own is that you're looking for a very specific shade, buying a white or pearl polish to use as a base and adding your own pigments to make just the color you want seems like it might work.

1. Step 1

   Open the bottle of clear nail polish. Some popular and reliable brands of clear nail polish include Sally Hansen, OPI, and Zoya. Be sure to pick a clear nail polish with a consistency you like, but refer to Step 6 below if you are using an older or lumpy bottle of nail polish.

2. Step 2

   Place the end of the funnel into the bottle of clear nail polish and place a small scrap of paper in the bottom of the funnel to block the hole.

3. Step 3

   Pour crushed eyeshadow or makeup pigment into the funnel. To crush your eyeshadow, place in a sealed plastic baggie and press gently on the eyeshadow until it is a lump-free, powdery consistency.

4. Step 4

   Add a small amount of fine glitter to the funnel mixture if you wish. Remember, a little bit of glitter goes a long way.

5. Step 5

   Mix the glitter and eyeshadow/pigment carefully before removing the scrap of paper, allowing the powder to enter the bottle. Take the funnel out, replace the cap on the nail polish and shake well for two minutes.

6. Step 6

   If the color is not exactly to your liking, try adding more eyeshadow/pigment or glitter. You may find that the nail polish you are using is thick or lumpy. Pour a few drops of nail polish remover into the nail polish bottle and shake for one minute to thin the nail polish.

Hmm, I love nail-polish.... but Im not sure how to make my own nail polish. You could go to some beauty store, or hair salon or store, and ask the people that work there. They would probably know.

u'll need:

• clear nail polish
• eye shaddow colour of your choice

take some eye shaddow and put it into the clear polish and shake it round. apply it on ur nail and if u want it darker, add more eye shaddow. !

Dissolve nitrocellulose in ethyl acetate and add some butyl stearate and colorants. Ethyl acetate and butyl stearate come in 55-gallon drums (which means you've got to make at least 110 gallons of nail polish unless you can come up with another use for the stuff) and nitrocellulose is an explosive.

Nail varnish is something you need to buy.

Although the above is true, if you would like to make nail varnish for fun, why not mix some colours together? You could make a whole new trend ! :)

Mix 1 tbsp. cold pressed olive oil and 1/2 tbsp. of powdered white clay or kaolin clay until a smooth paste is created. The olive oil in your safe nail polish will help to moisturize both your nails and your cuticles while the clay will buff and shine the surface.

Add color to your safe nail polish by adding up to 1/2 tbsp. of henna dye. Henna comes in a variety of colors and when added to your nails will create a soft, natural color. When using henna, you may need to add a bit more olive oil to create an even paste.

paint your nails with clear nail polish and sprinkle your nails with shimmer Arts and Crafts glitter. just saying, it is a little hard to remove..... but is SOOO PRETTY. i made this cool idea up myself. (NOT GLITTER GLUE- the sprinkle glitter.) :)

use clear coat and a food dye color of your choice. Mix, let color set for 5-10 min and apply. Good luck :]
