4 - 6 weeks is the usual healing time for most tongues. Now this may be different from person to person but 6 weeks is usually about the longest. It is then that we suggest to our clients to change to a shorter barbell {Usually 5/8"} so as to keep from damaging the palate or the enamel on your teeth. Hope this helps..........

What would happened if you change the barbell out in a tongue piercing before it heals?

Well you should step the barbell down two weeks post piercing after the swelling has gone down. So changing the jewellery is not an issue just make sure you are putting in good quality materials. Stay away from the junk jewellery.

How long after tongue piercing to change bar?

It's recommended to wait 4-6 weeks before changing the initial barbell in a tongue piercing to allow proper healing. Changing it too soon can cause irritation, swelling, and increase the risk of infection. Be sure to consult with your piercer before making any changes to ensure it's safe to do so.

If you take your own barbell would they Perice your tongue with it?

Most studios won't use your own barbell unless it was used for a previous tongue piercing you had. See we need to know what the barbell is made of , some barbells available from "novelty stores" are generally junk and that's the last thing we want to put into your tongue. Now if the barbell is the right size for your piercing and you can confirm it's good quality, and the piercer is good with that, they will need to autoclave it before it can be used. This involves putting it in the autoclave to sterilize it before it can be considered safe for a new piercing. So your best bet is to call your local body piercing studio's and see what they have to say. So will, some won't, others might.

How long does it take for the swelling to go down on a dimple piercing?

For the basic oral piercings, ie. lip piercing, monroe, labret etc etc; the swelling begins to go down after a few days. Since the cartilage for a dimple piercing is much thicker than that of a lip piercing, the swelling will take a little bit longer to go down. Usually 3-10 days before the swelling begins to go down, depending on how much you play with the jewelery, irritate the piercing, and even how you clean it can all alter the amount of time your piercing is swollen for!

Is it possible to get your tongue periced to far back?

Well it could happen but the tongue would need to be really hyper extended for this to happen. Generally most folks "chicken up" a bit when the piercing is about to be done and that's generally when the clamp is being applied and they tend to pull the tongue back a bit before it's actually clamped. Now chances are really good that if you think the piercing is too far back it could be because the swelling has gone down and you're noticing how long the initial barbell is (trust me it's long). Once a shorter barbell in put into the piercing it won't feel that far back, the barbell will center on the tongue a bit better and will be much more comfortable.

How long must you have your tongue ring in before leaving it out for a few hous?

Well six to eight weeks would be the best bet, longer even better. Leaving the barbell out will indicate to the body that it should start to close the piercing, thus the body will start to "shrink" the piercing. This shrinking will make reinserting the barbell difficult and can cause tearing of the piercing leading to bleeding and possible swelling. Professional body piercers don't consider a piercing "healed" until it's at least a year old and has had that time to "season". Seasoning allows the body to toughen the piercing making it more robust and able to handle colds, pulling and tugging and the other reactions common to the tongue during normal day to day eating and talking etc.

Will a belly button piercing effect your period?

Only if you regularly experience excessive bloating or swelling during your period. If you do, it is a good idea to have the piercing done within the week after your period ends to give yourself a few weeks of healing before the bloating or swelling reoccurs.

When can you chnage tongue piercing?

The step down barbell should be put in two weeks after the piercing has been done to prevent dental damage. the the piercing should be left alone for another 4 weeks to allow the piercing to toughen up before you get carried away changing the jewellery.

How do you know what is the correct size barbell for a vertical hood piercing?

Generally a professional body piercer will discuss this with you before the piercing is done and assist you in selecting the right gauge and long enough to achieve the desired effect from the piercing. Most hoods are done with 14g barbells about 1/2" long or longer depending on the developement of the hood.

When your in your third trimester of pregnancy and you remove your navel piercing how long will it take to close?

Well chances are good that the piercing may not close, it depends on how long you had the piercing before the jewellery is removed. Most of my clients get the jewellery replaced with a PTFE barbell which is ultra flexible made of surgical Teflon they manage to keep the piercing right through to delivery with no problems. If you have had the piercing for over a year, chances are good the piercing wont closed but it will shrink without jewellery in the piercing. You can get the jewellery put back in by seeing your piercer and having them use an insertion taper to reinsert the jewellery.
