I prefer to use both - you use the sponge first for your base coat and then for the powdery finish you use a foundation brush. Then obv you add your blusher and whatever you want (:
Hope I helped (: x
Cake foundation is a type of make up foundation that comes in the form of a rounded or square cake. The make up is generally applied with a sponge rather than a brush.
It does two things: it evens out your skin tone, and it makes the rest of your makeup stay on better. Foundation is the base of your makeup. If not applied well, it could ruin your overall look. Use a damp sponge for a smoother application. (That's a very good point, Dagny; if your foundation is not applied well you won't look good regardless of what you use on top of it or how well you apply it. There are four good foundation application tools. Your fingers are not one of them. First is the latex sponge wedge. These you use dry because they seem to be waterproof. I did a test with these once. I put a sponge wedge in a jar of water and left it there overnight, then put foundation on half of someone's face. Then I used a dry sponge to do the other half of her face. There wasn't any difference between the two sides. Latex sponge wedges are far better than your fingers, and they work pretty well, but there are better things to use. These are single-use sponges--they're so inexpensive you can afford to throw them away after one makeup application. Next is the polyurethane sponge. These will absorb water, so you use them wet--dip them in warm water, pull them out and wring them out until nothing more comes out. Once you apply your makeup with the sponge, wash it in soapy water and reuse it. These are really nice, and I think they'll be the first choice in a few years--right now they're not because they're a little hard to find. The natural sponge is better than the polyurethane sponge. These are also used wet. They've got smaller pores than polyurethane sponges do so they do a better job. They're getting harder to find because the sponge beds in the Mediterranean where these are harvested are nearly fished-out. A natural sponge is a piece of a marine animal, so vegans shouldn't use these. Finally, there is the foundation brush. These are getting very popular for two reasons: they're reusable, and you need a LOT less foundation when you use one. A decent foundation brush will cost you $7 to $10; a pro-grade one from MAC is $34. Or you can do what the really cool kids do and go to an art-supply store; a 1" mop brush or flat brush would be perfect for foundation. (Don't blame me; they're really called mop brushes.)
When your hair is wet a comb is better. When your hair is dry you can use a comb or a brush but a vent brush is better than the typical brush.
Better than...? It's not very effective.
Microfiber is generally a better option but are more expensive and aren't quite as durable as a regular sponge.
Answer1.I have been a makeup artist for many years, having my own freelance business, working for Estee Lauder, and Lancome, and I strongly believe the best way to use foundation is to start with an exfoliated, clean, and moisturized face.Step 2: Find a foundation that matches your skin tone. Test it by applying a little on your jaw and blending it down toward your neck. The color should always blend into your neck. That's how you know its the right color for you. Also, for best results, go for a foundation with medium-full coverage.Step 3: Apply foundation with a clean foundation brush, and blend down. Foundation brushes give you a flawless finish and you use less of your foundation that way. Sponges will only absorb the foundation, and fingers will give you uneven coverage, and spread bacteria to your face.Step 4: Apply a translucent powder on top, to help set the foundation, and than blush or bronzer.

SPONGE(say it loud) .... sponge (softer)
Sponges retain moisture and become a breeding ground for bacteria. Studies have shown that a kitchen sponge can be more than 200,000 times dirtier than a toilet brush.
I think it would be with ices or a brush. People like the brush better than ices. Good Luck!
The FOUNDATION public school. You'll get more experience and INFORMATION WITHOUT GETTING BORED!!! city school is far better better than foundation school
there are many different ways of applying foundation, but the one that I feel it the most natural looking, is a brush. you want a nice dense brush, as this will apply the foundation to your skin, rather than getting it clogged up in the bristles. put your desired amount of foundation on the back of your hand, and add a small portion of this to your brush. stating at the centre of your face, buff ( apply with pressure in circular motions) the foundation into your skin, working it outwards towards the hair line as you go. make sure that it is all worked into your skin, and be sure to apply a bit to your jaw line and neck for a more natural finish.
