Since I am sort of tired, I will give you Sephora's list. Since I think you are going for something more like a Scattegories answer & not a cosmetic company recommendation, the Sephora list will do what you need.

[If, on the other hand, you ever do want a learned opinion on the houses that make the most compelling cosmetics, here's mine: Makeup Forever, Shu Uemura, Nars, Mac {on more than a few occasions}, sometimes Guerlain, sometimes Dior {particularly now that John Galliano is at its head}, sometimes YSL. There is also a YouTuber named panacea81who just started her own makeup line. While I have not yet seen the makeup & I do not know panacea81 personally, I feel compelled to recommend her tapes & her products. Here's someone who proves that if one has enough talent at what one does, one can become well self-made. Her fans are proud of her].

I think that will work for you. The best known of the A-beginning brands on Sephora's list, by the way, is probably either Aquolina or Acqua di Parma. I wouldn't blame another Scattegories contestant for not believing that Alan Cumming is up to this nonsense.

It is none of the above...the like acon, alon. Just tested it today... They also have a wonderful skincare line. Very new my not be available in most markets.
