It was very nice
The style was dark and strong as the lighting was poor strength, gas lighting was the type of lighting used for film and Photography so the make-up had to be strong to be visible, it was fashionable to have a strong red lip in the shape that you would think the female had a permanent pout. This era was the end of using dangerous and poisonous white lead powders but was still fashionable to have fair skin. It was also fashionable to have softly curved thin eyebrows and a soft flush of color in the cheeks. Try search pics of Clara Bow this will give you a visual aid.

Makeup got really popular during World War II. Women who worked in factories making war materiel decided to become "their own women" and shake the taboos of pre-war America. Before the war started, only prostitutes and "flappers" (look it up, it would take too long to explain here) cropped their hair or wore makeup; "good girls" wore nothing on their faces and kept their hair long. During the war, they realized they could do whatever pleased them.
There were many colours based on country, occupation, month year and so on.
the red reminds you of the war.
The make up in ww2 was plain colours except for lipstick which was red to show patriotism.
It didn't. During the First World War Imperial Germany's colours were actually red, white and black and not red, yellow and black as they are today. St Kilda FC changed its colours to red, yellow and black, between 1915-22, so as to disassociate itself from Germany. Red, yellow and black were considered suitable replacement colours because they were the colours of the St Kilda Cricket club and also of Belgium, Australia's ally. Germany's current flag (red, yellow and black) was adopted during the Weimar period (1918-33) soon after the Kaiser adication at the end of the First World War. During the Nazi period (1933-45) the Swastika was the official flag of Germany. The Weimar flag (red, black and yellow) was readopted after the Second World War and remains the German flag to this day. I hope this answers your question Neil
World War Two was a major contributor to the Holocaust. Under the shadow of war, many things could be done, many laws could be passed that would not have been allowed during a time of peace.
