What is necessary basic makeup?

Fully answering this question is tricky because I don't know your features and skin/eye/hair colors. Makeup is very individualized. For very basic, natural-esque makeup, I suggest the following:

EYESHADOW:

If you're willing to pay high end, MAC and Urban Decay are excellent.

If you want cheaper, I suggest NYX, Milani, or Ulta's brand.

You probably want: - A light shimmery color that complements your skin tone: to be used as a base, wash, and highlight. I use Urban Decay's "half baked", and I've been eyeing to get MAC's "grand entrance". - A darker color that complements your skin tone: to accent the crease of your eyes. I use Milani's java bean...among many, many others.

EYELINER:

If you're willing to pay high end, Urban Decay has their 24/7 glide on eye pencils.

If you want cheaper, I suggest NYC's waterproof eyeliner or Prestige's total intensity eyeliner.

You probably want:

-Eyeliner in black or brown depending on your hair color. Dark colors are also good depending on your hair/skin/eye color. I suggest getting waterproof. I actually use NYC's "smokey plum" or Urban Decay's "Bourbon".

MASCARA:

Mascaras are HIGHLY subjective. To each her own. You really need to find what works for you. Some well reviewed drugstore mascara's include: Lash Blast by Covergirl, Colossal by Maybelline, Voluminous by Loreal, Full n Soft by maybelline, Volume Couture by Max Factor, and 200 calorie by Max Factor.

You probably want:

-Mascara in black or brown depending on your hair color. I personally LOVE Max Factor's volume couture, and 2000 calorie.

Finally, I suggest grabbing a nice comfortable lipgloss that complements your skin tone and natural lip color. I use MAC's 3D glass in "apex".

In sum; makeup is highly subjective and personalized for the individual. Finding what works for you is sometimes trial and error. The bare essentials of makeup (in my

opinion) are a light eyeshadow, a dark eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, and a flattering lipgloss.

I think all of this is very important but i would have to add face products to this list (foundation, blush, bronzer...) i believe that while a persons eyes do stand out most but that persons skin is just as important. if someone comes up to me and the have the most beautiful eye make up i have ever scene but their skin is blochy it retracts from the eye make up. i am a firm believer that in order to create a great painting you have to have a clean even canvis. Amw2010To start off, since you want to know this for job training, I would suggest lots of practice. If you were to be a make-up artist, you would need to focus on the person you are doing make-up on. For instance, if you have hazel eyes, a jade green would be really pretty behind your eyes. However from experience in working with make-up for a long time the basic supplies I used when I first started was a variety of eyes shadows. I would try to get a couple types of different mascras' too because the brushes are different. You would also probally start out with bare minerals. I love that! You will also need eyeliner. Get different colors, prefferably brown and black depending on the eye color. Eyes are THE most descriptive part of a woman's face. It's most of the time the first thing people look at when they see someone. That's about the basics! If you need more advice feel free to ask !You also could use things such as:

-Brushes (all kinds but most importantly: foundation, powder, eyeshadow, blending, all over face)

-disposable peices (small eyeshadow applicators, mascara sticks, lip scrapers, cotton balls)

-Makeup remover

Is this "basic makeup supplies" for doing your own makeup, or for doing other people's? If you are setting up to do wedding makeup or pageant makeup you will pretty much need to go to a store and buy one of each, plus at least five sets of brushes so you don't use dirty brushes on a client (you clean them between sessions), plus a rolling tool box from Home Depot to put it all in, and a big car so this can stay upright.

If it's for you that's different. You will need:

makeup removers - there are eye makeup and face makeup removers, and you need both

cotton pads for the eye makeup remover

buffing puffs for the face makeup remover, which is also called "face cleanser"

soft towels for drying your face

moisturizers - a night cream to wear to bed and a day cream for under your makeup

primer - this helps everything stay on.

Brushes: at least a blush brush, small bristle shadow brush and medium bristle shadow brush

foundation. If you can afford it, go to a department store and buy it from a brand that will test it on you for the proper color. This HAS to be right, or it'll be very obvious.

powder, the same shade as your foundation

blush. To pick a blush color, put one of your fingers in the "v" between the thumb and forefinger of the other hand, and squeeze with moderate pressure. Whatever color your finger turns is your blush shade

at least nine shades of eye shadow, in three-shade "trio" sets. You want a neutral set consisting of three shades of whatever color your eyes are, a set of three beiges (unless your eyes are brown, and then get a set of violets), and a set of the color that's the compliment of your eye color. Find a color wheel online and look for your eye color...for instance, if you have blue eyes look for gold shadows.

charcoal-gray eyeliner. This isn't black but it's pretty close, and it works on everyone.

mascara. Brown for blondes, black for everyone else.

lip color. Always, always, always wear color on your lips. Even if you slept late and have fifteen seconds before you need to be at the bus stop, wear color on your lips. This means lipstick. You want three. One is called a nude. If you look at an advertising circular for somewhere like Walmart or Sears, where they don't want the models' makeup to stand out because they're emphasizing the product, you will see the models are wearing a product that says "I have lips" rather than "I have lipstick on." That's nude lipstick. Get a really good nude lipstick (MAC "Twig" is a real subtle one; MAC "Craving" is a bit more pronounced) because you'll wear this more than anything. The second is a medium shade. Almost anyone can wear mauve and plum lips, but pick only one because they're fairly similar. And finally, brace yourself: anyone who wears lipstick really needs a good dramatic red at least for evenings. Red lipstick is not easy to learn to wear; the first few times you have it on you will think, "everyone's staring at me!" Keep at it though; it's a heck of a confidence builder once you've mastered it.

and finally, lip gloss, which you always wear over lipstick and never by itself.
