Here are two different answers on how you can tell the difference between the spleen and the pancreas: Serious answer: The spleen is an organ, while the pancreas is a gland. Sardonic answer: Fortunately, that's what doctors are for! Refer to the links, below, for further information. You can tell by two factors, location and appearance. The pancreas is lies transversly across the posterior abdominal wall and almost along the bottom of the greater curvature of the stomach getting thinner as you move laterally. The tail end of the pancreas is associated withthe hilum of the spleen. The speeln is located up beside the fundus of the stomach and appear quite similar to a kidney, the easy way to tell the difference is that the spleen does not have an adrenal gland above it.
Yes, and it is called a 'ruptured spleen'. Accidents that apply trauma to the abdominal area often rupture the spleen, and it must then be removed by surgery because the spleen is a repository for blood and someone can bleed out internally if the spleen isn't removed. You can live without your spleen just fine, by the way.
My little girl was born without the spleen, like her father. I'm an Italian girl who is very informed about asplenia. Asplenia can be congenital or caused by traumatic events or by serious blood diseases. I can say that people without a spleen have to do vaccines against streptococcus pneumoniae, c meningococcus, antiemophilus influenzae, anti-flu, MPR vaccine, and pay attention to any signs of infections or fevers, even if low grade fevers. People without the spleen should not go abroad in countries such as Africa, (Meningitis is very diffused), use immediately antibiotics if they have got a fever, take precautions against stinks of insects

Yes you can. There are many affections of the spleen leading to spasms. Are there any other things you noticed different? Is it swollen ?Is the area reddish? Does it hurt if u press your index and middle finger directly bellow or above it? Do you have a sensation of nausea? Do you get pains in your neck/head/shoulders? I can give you a diagnosis if u tell me more about your simptoms . I have had a similar issue that you might be able to help with. I had an ultrasound which showed I had an enlarged spleen. My doctor sent me for mono tests even though I havent been sick in years and have had a steady girlfriend who has not been sick either. Recently, I've noticed some tenderness and a full feeling in my upper left side. I have also felt intermittent "fluttering" sensations
