Homozygous means that both alleles for a gene are the same, designated by two identical letters, such as RR (dominant) or rr (recessive). Heterozygous means that both alleles for a gene are different, designated by two different alleles, such as Rr.

Homozygous is when the combination of alleles are the same. EX: AA or BB. Heterozygous is when the combination of alleles is different. EX: Aa or Bb.
