It has a structural function that is to maintain the structural integrity of the cell and prevent all of the intracellular material from being outside.

It has a physiologic/biochemical function also, and that is to regulate what enters and leaves the cell (it is semi permeable), and it also has receptors that react with substances and this is how messages are passed to and from cells.

What is the function of the cell membrane in a bacteria cell?

It hold every thing together and has the same function as a cell membrane that means, it is surrounding the cell and deciding what to let into the cell.

What is every plant and animal cell surrounded by?

Every plant and animal cell is surrounded by a cell membrane. Plant cells have both a cell membrane and a cell wall because they can create there own food through photosynthesis. Animal cells have to absorb food, so they cant have a cell wall.

Structure surrounding the cell's control center?

The cells control center, the nucleus, is surrounded by the cell membrane. The basic function of the cell membrane is to protect the cell from its surroundings. It consists of the phospholipid bilayer with embedded proteins.

The what surrounds the cell?

In animal cell it is surrounded by cell membrane. In plant cell it is surrounded by cell wall.

What types of cells are surrounded by a cell membrane?

All cells are surrounded by a plasma membrane of some kind, but depending on the cell type they can also be surrounded by additional structures. Plant cells have a cell wall to maintain hydrostatic pressure and gram-positive bacteria have a thick coating of peptidoglycans surrounding their plasma membrane.
