My friend went in for a colonoscopy and upon waking her, they said she had a hole in her colon and needed surgery immediately? She had no problems before the surgery. Did the colonoscopy create the hole?
I don't think colonoscopy can cause holes because it's done with laser. My daughters' mother in law has this problem. She was having trouble breathing and passed out. At the hospital, they said her oxygen level was low and put her in ICU in a drug-induced coma so her body could heal. She had 2 heart attacks, surgery and is on life support. The doctors said few people survive this trauma. Her bile, secretions, etc. leaked into her system. They have given her 48 to 72 hours to live. Doctor said this can caused by many things, one being taking antibiotics.I don't know how long she had this problem.
The four divisions of the colon are the ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, and sigmoid colon. These divisions make up the large intestine and are responsible for absorbing water and electrolytes from digested food before eliminating waste.
Colon
No, the sigmoid colon is a specific part of the colon. The colon, also known as the large intestine, is divided into different segments, and the sigmoid colon is the S-shaped portion located near the end of the colon before the rectum.
The shortest part of the colon is the ascending colon, which connects the cecum to the transverse colon. It measures about 5 to 10 centimeters in length.
The six named regions of the large intestine from proximal to distal are: cecum, ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon, and rectum.

Colo is for Colon... And omy is for a hole so basically colon hole... It's an opening through the abdomen to the colon to allow for fecal matter to escape when something is preventing it from doing do.. Or if someone has a portion of the colon removed
It gets a colostomy, a opening on the belly where they put the colon and attach a bag to it.
Wife's colon now has a hole from removal of large tumor in all areas of the pelvic area. It's not colon cancer just a hole in removal. Doctor wants to do a colostomy and says it will be pernament because of the location and 'thiness'. We want to know if it could be catched, or reversed or another option.
