Plants are producers, they produce their own food using green organelles known as chloroplasts, these green chloroplasts contain green chlorophyll. In other words plants are green and make their own food while growing in sunny locations.

Of course their are exceptions, sometimes other color pigments are more noticeable in plants. If you do not know what I mean then look out the window at some trees in the fall and you will see what I mean.

Another difference is plants have roots and mold have tiny fibers known as mycelium. Mycelium serves similar purposes as roots but are found in fungi and not plants.

Plants produce their own food, fungi are decomposers, thus fungi break down dead organisms to obtain foods.

And one more thing, mold and plants have chemically different cell walls. Plants have cellulose in their ceil walls and fungi or mold have chitin in their cell walls.

Some fungi are also green, but the green pigments in mold is not from chloroplasts, it is from the fungi / molds spores.

One bit of info you will not find in the books is that if a green mold like substance is growing in a moist area indoors it is almost always Pen Asp mold or Trichoderma viride mold. If a similar looking green substance is growing on wet surfaces outdoors, or indoors near a sunny window, it is almost always algae. Green mold seldom grows in sunny outdoor places, and algae seldom grows in shady indoor environments. This is based on many years of personal observations of mold and algae as a professional mold inspector.

What observation could be used to determine that an ocean organism carries out autotrophic nutrition?

its because the organism either lives close to the surface and because chloroplasts are visible in its cells (only if it is a plant) this information was found in my AP Biology textbook

How might the scientists use the cell theory to determine if the object is an organism?

Scientists could use the cell theory to determine if an object is an organism by examining its structure under a microscope for evidence of cells. If the object is composed of cells with a defined nucleus and membrane-bound organelles, it would align with the principles of the cell theory and likely be considered an organism. Additionally, observing characteristics such as growth, reproduction, and response to stimuli would further support this classification.

If you know an organism has a cell wall and is a multicellular autotroph could you use the chart above to determine the kingdom to which it belongs Why or why not?

Yes, based on the characteristics of having a cell wall and being a multicellular autotroph, you can determine that the organism belongs to the Plantae kingdom. Plants have cell walls and are multicellular autotrophs, making them a suitable match based on the given information.

What kills nasal fungus?

If you have fungus in your nose, it is best to seek medical treatment from a doctor. It could be a simple infection of athlete's foot, which is treatable with the same cream you would use on your foot. Or it could be a much more serious infection by another fungus that would require much stronger drugs.

How could you determine whether a bacterium fermented the following carbohydratesmannitolsorbitol adonitol or arabinose?

To determine if a bacterium ferments mannitol, sorbitol, adonitol, or arabinose, you can perform biochemical tests such as the phenol red broth test or the methyl red test. In phenol red broth, a color change to yellow indicates acid production from fermentation. The methyl red test detects mixed acid fermentation by the production of stable acid end-products. By observing these reactions in the presence of the specific carbohydrates, you can determine if the bacterium ferments them.

Which tyoe of organism is most likely represented by x?

Without more information, it is difficult to determine which type of organism is represented by x. It could be a plant, animal, fungus, bacteria, or other type of organism depending on the context in which x is being referenced.

Is a decomposer a machine?

A decomposer is a living organism such as a bacterium or a fungus, therefore it could not be a machine.

Could examining a karyotype determine the age of fungus?

No, examining a karyotype cannot determine the age of a fungus. Karyotyping provides information about the number, size, and shape of chromosomes in a cell, but it does not reveal the age of an organism. Fungal age is typically determined through methods such as growth rate, colony morphology, genetic analysis, or carbon dating.

What techniques could be used to identify antibodies produced by a patient?

Western blotting. When Western blotting is used for identification purposes, proteins from a known organism are used to determine whether a patient's serum contains antibodies.

How would you experimentally determine whether an organism is a keystone species?

One approach would be to conduct a removal experiment by removing the organism from the ecosystem and observing the effects on other species and ecosystem functions. If the removal leads to significant changes in species composition or ecosystem dynamics, it suggests that the organism is a keystone species. Another approach could involve monitoring the organism's population dynamics and ecosystem impacts over time to assess its role as a keystone species.

What kind of relationship exists between fungus and alga in a lichen?

In a lichen, the relationship between fungus and alga is a mutualistic symbiosis. The fungus provides structural support, protection, and moisture retention for the alga, while the alga conducts photosynthesis, producing organic compounds that nourish the fungus. This partnership allows lichens to thrive in harsh environments where neither organism could easily survive alone.
