At any given time about 5% of the total bone mass in your body is being remodeled. Renewal rate for compact is 4% / year and 20% / year.

Compact bone is the outer region of all the bones in your body. There are two basic parts of each of your bones:There is an outer hard layer of bone called either compact bone or cortical bone. this layer is much more dense. There is an inner layer of bone called either cancellous bone or trabecular bone. This is a softer bone and contains bone marrow and much more blood vessels than the cortical (compact) bone.
Spongy bone tissue is not as highly arranged as compact bone tissue because it doesn't do as much of the weight supporting function as compact bone. Its tissue is arranged in a sponge-like pattern of bony plates called trabeculae. The spaces between these trabeculae are filled with bone marrow which is where our blood cells are made. Spongy bone makes up most of the tissue of flat, short, and irregularly shaped bones.
Spongy Bone has more surface area, but it is weaker and not as dense as compact bone. Compact Bone is the tough outer layer of bone while spongy bone is the porous bone where the red and yellow marrow is. Spongy is softer bone, with holes in it. It is found inside the bone. It is lighter than compact bone. Compact bone is generally on the outer edges of bone. it is composed of multiple osteon units that are bunched closely together like stacked logs and, thus, is good at bearing weight in the long direction. Spongy bone is generally on the inside of compact bone. Individual osteon-like struts (called trabeculae) branch in many directions and interconnect. Thus, there are spaces created where red marrow exists. This kind of bone is good at handling stress from multiple directions and is lighter weight. Spongy bone can appear yellow because it has some fat in it, and it is possible to see small holes in spongy bone. Compact bone is usually white. Also, spongy bone is not long (like the wrist) most irregular and flat bones are formed from spongy bone tissue. Compact bone is usually long (like a femur). Compact bone tissue is hard with few open spaces & provides protection and support.Spongy bone tissue is porous with many open spaces
Each kind of cell has a unique characteristics such as shape, size, flexibility, color, and texture. Bone cells combine with other bone cells make bone tissue and so on.
If the spongy bone was on the outside, people would look puffy or jelly like fillings. They're likely to be very sensitive to every little touch. Plus if an injury would occur the damage to spongy bone would cause less production of RBC's or permanent damage if continuously damaged. Spongy bone is lighter, softer and weaker then compact bone, but it has greater surface area and much more vascular, so it needs to be protected at al times and that's why we need compact bone to be on the outside because its stronger and stiffer then the spongy bone.

Compact bone looks pretty much solid and spongy bone looks more like the back of a wicker chair. The lattice-like appearance is called trabeculae and makes the bone lighter and has space for the bone marrow.

Compact Bone in macroscopic appearance looks solid and dense. Spongy bone in macroscopic appearance looks poorly organized. compact bone in microscopic structure is riddled with passage ways that serve as conduits for nerves, blood vessels and lymphatic vessels. Spongy bone is microscopic structure; the trabaculae in spongy bone align precisely along lines of stress and help the bone resist stress as much as possible. Location of compact bone in the outer layer of short, flat and irregular bones and also in the diaphysis of long bones. Spongy bone location; in the inside of short, flat and irregular bones and also in the epihyses of long bones.

Marrow: Produces the blood in the body. Outer Membrane: protects the inner part of the bone Spongy bone: provides support. Without it, the bone will most likely break. Compact bone: More support and protection!
Yes. Bones need a blood supply as much as any other tissue.
Bone is very much living. Try breaking a bone, and see what it does. :)
