I have a Live oak tree that is covered with some type of cobweb silky from its base on up only on the bark can anyone tell you what it is?
I HAVE A LARGE LIVE OAK (BEEN TOLD IT IS ALOT OLDER THAN ME) AND THE ANSWERS I HAVE GOTTEN FROM MY TREE MAN AND OTHERS I HAVE ASKED TO VERIFY IS:
LEAVE IT ALONE - THE SILKY FILM HAS SOME KIND OF INSECT THAT IS EATING OFF ANOTHER INSECT THAT HURTS THE TREE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE FILM IS GOOD FOR THE TREE.
WE HAVE BEEN IN THE HOUSE WITH THE LIVE OAK FOR 10 YRS AND HAVE HAD THE FILM 3 TIMES AND OUR TREE IS DOING GREAT! I KNOW IT LOOKS SCARY, BUT WE HAVE HAD NO PROBLEM AND IT WILL LEAVE ON IT'S OWN.
