WE take food as a source of energy.Inside the body this food is oxidized.If we talk about the cellular level the oxidativephosphorylation takes place in the mitochondria which traps the energy releases into ATP(adenosine triphosphate).When energy is needed ATP converts into ADP losing its phosphate group and releasing energy for cellular activity etc.Actually ATP is the energy currency of the cell.
