No digestion occurs in the large intestine; digestion is finished in the small intestine. In the large intestine absorption takes place, then the waste materials are egested.
While the whole tract is used to digest food molecules the part that really takes in the rest is in the small intestine where it takes in the nutrients then goes to the large intestine that absorbs water from and eliminates the residues of digestion. Then the rest goes through the rectum. study island cheaters it is small intestine
the stomach and the pancreas
The esophagus connects to the stomach, allowing food to pass from the throat to the stomach for digestion. The small intestine is connected to the stomach, where further digestion of food and absorption of nutrients takes place. The pancreas and liver also play important roles in digestion by secreting enzymes and bile into the small intestine to aid in the breakdown of food.
The small intestine is connected to the stomach at one end and to the large intestine at the other end. Food from the stomach enters the small intestine for further digestion and absorption of nutrients before waste passes into the large intestine for eventual elimination from the body.
the small intestine is the primary site for the digestion and absorption of food. the large intestine mainly functions to absorb excess water and electrolytes from undigested food particles. --thoughtfulobserver
Bacteria
Minor fiber digestion by bacteria goes on in the large intestine, and water is absorbed, but no major lipid/protein/carbohydrate digestion occurs. All of that goes on higher up in the system.
It is passed from the stomach into the large intestine where further digestion occurs. From there it is passed to the small intestines where final digestion occurs. From there, to the colon.
Chemical digestion occurs int he stomach where acids break down the food turning it into chyme, and also happens in the mouth where saliva mixed with enzymes break food into bolus. It also occurs in the liver, when it produces bile to break down fat, and the liver also breaks down medicine, and small intestine, the small intestine is where the main chemical digestion occurs, the small intestine absorbs all the nutrients into the blood streams.
As far as I know there is no digestion at all in the large intestine, only absorption.
The large intestine is mechanical digestion; it absorbs water and is involved in peristalsis. It has nothing to do with enzymes, which is chemical digestion.
The small intestine is responsible for digestion of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. It also absorbs most nutrients. However, the large intestine is less active in it's processes. The large intestine only digests fiber and only absorbs water.
Chewing is mechanical digestion.
small intestine, and water absorption occurs in the colon/large intestine

The large intestine, no digestion takes place there. The large intestine passes along the waste product and it exits through the anus.
chemical digestion takes place in the small intestine large intestine, mouth and stomach. Nutrients are absorbed in the small intestine and minerals in the large intestine.
