If considered part of the eye, the lids can prevent most light from entering the eye. Otherwise, the amount of light allowed inside the eye is primarily controlled by the Iris. The Iris surrounds the pupil which is literally a hole. The Iris can make the pupil smaller (constrict) or make it larger (dilate). The larger the pupil is, the more light enters the eye. The muscle movements responsible for contraction or dilation are "automatic" or involuntary.

RE: prior answer of "Retina controls the amount of light let in and let out".

The amount of light reaching the retina affects the Iris. The retina is at the back of the eye and is where light is changed into nerve signals. If those nerve signals indicate that there is a lot of light entering the eye, the iris will constrict making the pupil smaller. The opposite happens if the nerve signals indicate that there is very little light.

Parts of an eye and its uses?

The white part of the eye is called the sclera. The colored circle in your eye is called the iris. The black spot in your eye is called the pupil. The pupil is actually a hole that gets bigger in the dark so it lets more light in. It gets smaller in the light so it could keep less light out of the eye.

What is the part of the eye are necessary for seeing?

An eye is a complex structure and essentially all parts of the eye are required for vision to occur. However the part of the eye which detects the focused (by the lens) light image is the retina.
