Mitosis refers to the process of cellular reproduction of somatic (body) cells. All the cells of the body, with the exception of sperm and egg cells, reproduce this way.
Meiosis is the production of germ cells (sperm and egg) in most animals and plants, to include humans.
There is a lot more involved in each process; for instance, mitosis involves a number of steps (4-5 depending upon what is included) to get the chromosomes tightly wound so they will be easier to separate, chromosomal migration to the "equator" of the cell, formation of spindle fibers to attach to the centromere of each chromosome, etc. The same goes for meiosis, with additional steps to produce the germ cells with half the chromosomal compliment of somatic cells.
