The brain controls almost everything in us, except for things like reflexes that are initiated by the spinal cord. Without the brain, we would be unable to see, even if we had eyes, or hear, or taste, or realize that we were touching something. In fact, without the brain, you would not even be able to move your muscles. This includes the muscles of your heart. You would have no personality, no memory, no emotion.

The brain keeps us alive (breathing, heartbeat), and allows us to perceive the world and to move and to learn, and in fact, it is debatable if we would even know that we existed if we had no brain (then it's a question of soul).
