Parathyroid glands are tiny glands located next to the thyroid. Their job is to control the amount of calcium in your body and blood. If parathyroid glands are malfunctioning, a calcium imbalance may occur and this will affect your kidneys as they begin to secrete the extra calcium that has been released from your bones.
