Best Answer

If its dilated up to 3 cm, seems to be a precursor condition to distended (swollen) condition which is a precursor to a ruptured aorta

Usually occurs in the descending (or abdominal) aorta.

Mild aortic ectasia is defined as an enlargement of the aorta less than 1.5 times the normal size. This condition can be associated with an aortic aneurysm. If diameter is greater than 1.5 times a normal aorta’s size, it is known as an aneurysm.

Ectatic means it is abnormally dilated. It is not clear if the description indicates an aneurysm. Talk with your health care provider for further information.

What is the difference between the ascending aorta and the thoracic aorta?

The ascending aorta extends from the aortic root (which connects the aorta to the heart), upwards toward the aortic arch. The thoracic aorta is one of two parts of the descending aorta, which extends back down towards the abdomen after the aortic arch. The thoracic aorta is the part of the descending aorta that is above the diaphragm, while the abdominal aorta is below the diaphragm.

The entrance to the ascending aorta is guarded by the valve?

semilular valve

What are the subdivisions of the aorta?

The aorta is one vessel that can be conceptualized in six parts: The aortic root: connects the aorta to the left ventricle. The coronary arteries emerge from this part. Ascending aortia: Moving away from the heart towards the neck. Aortic arch: the aorta turns at this point to descend towards the rest of the body. Branches to the brain and upper extremities branch away here. Descending aorta: extends down the back and divides into the common iliac arteries. The portion above the diaphragm is the thoracic aorta, the portion below the diagram is the abdominal aorta.

How large can your ascending aorta get before it will burst?

Most Dr's recommend having surgery when your aorta gets to 5 cm. I am a very rare exception and didn't know I had a problem. When they caught my aneurism my aorta was at 7.2 cm. I have a brother and sister that also had surgery but they measured just over 5 cm.

Explain what the cononay artires do?

The coronary arteries are the ones that supple the heart musculature. They are two fairly large arteries that come directly from the ascending aorta just behind the aortic valve.

Which aorta pump blood to left ventricle ascending aorta or descending aorta?

Blood goes in this order... Right Atrium -> Right Ventricle -> Lungs -> Left Atrium -> Left Ventricle -> Ascending Aorta -> Descending Aorta. So neither pump blood to the the Left Ventricle but the Left Ventricle pumps blood to the ascending aorta.

What does asending mean?

Ascending simply means that "x" originates at a lower point than it terminates. For example, the ascending aorta starts from the left ventricle and ends at the arch of the aorta. The left ventricle is inferior to the arch of the aorta, thus that portion of the aorta is considered ascending.

The entrance to the ascending aorta is guarded by?

The entrance to the ascending aorta is guarded by the semilunar valve. The semilunar valves are pocketlike structures attached at the point at which the pulmonary artery and the aorta leave the ventricles.

What blood vessel supplies the descending aorta with blood?
