In bacteria, the cell wall is composed of peptidoglycan, and is essential to the survival of many bacteria. Bacteria have been classified into Gram-positive and Gram-negative based on the structure of the cell wall. Gram-positive bacteria possess thick cell wall consisting of many layers of peptidoglycan and teichoic acids. Gram-negative bacteria have relatively thin cell wall consisting of few layers of peptidoglycan.

While cell membranes might be around every cell, cell walls made of cellulose are only found around plant cells. There are other sorts of cell walls. Many but not all bacteria also have a structure called a cell wall.Fungi and some protozoa also have cell walls. These walls are made of proteins. They serve the same purpose of protecting and maintaining structure.
Bacteria do not have membrane-bound organelles. They do not have mitochondria, a Golgi apparatus, or endoplasmic reticulum. Plant and animal cells have all these things.
