Phenylethyl Alcohol Agar (PEA) is prepared using the following incredients:

  • Pancreatic Enzyme digest of Casein.......15.0g
  • Papaic digest of Soybean Meal.................5.0g
  • Sodium Chloride.....................................5.0g
  • Yeast Extract..........................................5.0g
  • Phenylethanol........................................2.5g
  • Vitamin K..........................................10.0mg
  • Hemin.................................................5.0mg
  • L-Cystine.............................................0.4mg
  • Sheep Blood........................................50.0ml
  • Agar.....................................................15.0g

Components are mixed in 1 L water. If making less than 1 L media, change components accordingly. Media should be prepared at pH 7.3 +/- 0.2. After mixing components and adjusting pH, autoclave at 121 degrees C for 20 min then placed into water bath at 50 degrees C to allow it to cool enough to be poured.
