It is called gound. It's just the residue left from tears that have dried up over night, the water from the tears evaporates but the other constituents of the tears don't. Tears keep the eye lubricated all the time.

The discharge forms a crust on the eyelids, or gathers in the corner of the eye during sleep and it is formed by a combination of mucus, tears, blood cells, skin cells from the eyelids, and dust.

∙ 14y agoAre you talking about "eye floaters"? Those are small proteins that float around in your eye. They are 100% natural and harmless. They often appear after many types of eye surgery. If you see them constantly and they are accompanied by random flashes of light or pain, they may be a sign of "retinal detachment" (when the retina detaches from the eye- causing blindness). This is only in sever situations, so don't fear.
If you think that you may be having eye issues, consult an ophthalmologist.
