When the concentration of molecules on both sides of the membrane is the same, the molecules will continue to move across the membrane in both directions. This is known as diffusion.
Nothing involving diffusion, only active transport happens in that situation. This is called being isotonic.
This is called equilibrium. The particles would move back and forth between the two sides of the membrane at the same rate.
Nothing much. Molecules will cross randomly in either direction, but on average there will be no net gain to either side.
When you have a situation like this, nothing really happens. The solutions are isotonic.
osmosis
The solute concentration is equal on both sides of the cell membrane
A cell is in __________ when solute concentrations inside and outside the cell are equal.?
osmosis is the diffusion of water. In diffusion, substances move from an area of high concentration to and area of lower concentration, or from a hypotonic solution to a hypertonic solution. Free water concentration just refers to the concentration of solute in a solution (in osmosis, water). If the concentration of solute is higher outside of a cell bits of solute will move towards the area of lower concentration: inside the cell. If the concentration of solute is higher within the cell then some solute will leave the cell. Cells "want" to be isotonic, or to have equal amounts of solute both inside and out. When a cell reaches an isotonic state it wants to stay that way, so the water moves across the membrane at the same rate. Hope that helps! Source: AP bio student
Diffusion of fluid through a semipermeable membrane from a solution with a low solute concentration to a solution with a higher solute concentration until there is an equal concentration of fluid on both sides of the membrane .
If the solution is hypotonic, that means that the concentration is less than that in the cell. Interestingly, despite the impermeability of the solute, the water still rushes into the cell to try and correct the imbalance, which causes the cell to swell and eventually burst.
Isotonic
when net solute concentrations are equal on both sides of a semi permeable membrane its called isotonic
isotonic
An isotonic solution/drink has the same salt concentration as the normal cells in the body and the blood. An isotonic drink is quickly absorbed and replaces fluid and minerals, which the body uses during physical activity. These types of drinks provide a good balance between refueling and hydration.

The solute concentration is equal on both sides of the cell membrane.
Isotonic
The water will move towards the higher solute concentration until both sides are isotonic.
A solution with the same ratio of solute to solvent (concentration) as another solution is called isotonic. If it has more solvent and thus a lower solute concentration, then it is called hypertonic.
