You may have pulled a muscle, which is easy to do. This can happen just by turning wrong or even by coughing or sneezing. I've had this happen to me numerous times. The pain can get so bad that it makes breathing very difficult for a short while.
But if the pain doesn't go away in an hour or so, or if you have any other symptoms, you need to call a doctor ASAP.
See a doctor.
The cartilage between the ribs and breastbone moves and flexes when you breathe.
Everyone heels differently. If you are experiencing pain after heeling from broken ribs you should see your doctor.
yes.yor ribs move 5 million times a year, everytime you breathe!
Yes. Costochondiritis is a painful inflammation of the ribs and tissues between the ribs.
Hi I am not so sure if this question relates to Scoliosis or not, have you been to see a Dr, have you had the forward bending test to see if you have any curve in your spine? The shooting pains could be radiating from somewhere else on your body - however, if you have a large curve then your ribs could be getting in the way, pushing on other parts of your body and this could be causing the pain. Without actually going to see a Dr and having an X-Ray or MRI scan it is difficult to answer this question - there could be many reasons why you have this pain. I hope you can find a good Dr and get the answers that you deserve Hi I'd like to add that I have a similar pain at times and I think you need to think about when this pain happens. If this happens (like me) when you breathe deeply sometimes or when you are trying to breathe deeply and it seems right below your ribs or between your ribs - it could just be a simple intercostal stitch (just a little muscle twinge) but don't dismiss other possibilities if you think it could be more serious!
rib could be out.

Outwards and upwards
If you're relatively thin, or averagely built, breathe in and your ribs will show.
why is there burning in my ribs
The ribs don't do anything when you breathe it's your diaphragm that makes you breathe.
the name of the muscle that is attached to your ribs is called a Diaphragm,it helps your lungs to breathe.

Any disorder with the ribs can certainly cause lumbar pain. Perhaps the body is favoring the ribs and carrying itself in a way that causes lumbar strain.
i would say the spine because its involved in the movement of many of the other bones
