The preferred methods of diagnosis use simple and very accurate blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) tests that detect the presence of an antigen produced by the fungus.

Dynein is missing from the cilia and flagella of individuals with a specific inherited disorder These individuals have severe respiratory problems and if males are sterile What is the connection?

Dynein helps produces cilia and flagella. Ciliated cells in the respiratory tract propel mucus with dust and bacteria away from the lungs. If Cilia is not produced , you are more suseptible to breathing problems. Also the sperm is moved by its tail (the flagella) if this is not produced, the sperm cannot reach the egg. (this is the only method of propulsion for the sperm.)

Indications for taking blood cultures and appropriate site selection?

I. INDICATIONSRoutine blood cultures should be performed on any patient in whom there is a suspicion of bacteremia or candidemia.Isolator blood cultures should be performed on any patient suspected of having one of the following:1. Subacute or chronic endocarditis with multiple negative BACTEC system cultures. It is appropriate to use the BACTEC system for the initial workup of endocarditis of any suspected etiology. Isolators should be used after multiple BACTEC cultures are obtained and fail to reveal an etiologic agent (including HACEK).2. Suspected deep fungal infection, such as histoplasmosis, blastomycosis, and coccidioidomycosis. Ordinarily, cultures of other sites, such as tissue biopsy, and in some cases serological tests, are more helpful than blood culture.3. Suspected mycobacteremia, particularly in HIV patients with CD4 counts

What are the 2 functions of the fat layer?

1) Fat/lipids are needed to absorb and utalise fat souluble vitamins, specifically vitamins A, S, E, K. 2) Fat/lipids provides a protective cushoning layer around important internal organs. Obviously too much is not a good thing but without the cushioning affect that fat provides your internal organs are very suseptible to impact damage 3) Fat/lipids are used as the body's back up energy store. When carbohydrates (in all forms) are exhausted your body will use the energy it has previously stored as fat. Without this back up energy store, if carbohydrate energy sources were depleted, you would immediately start to burn stored protein e.g muscle 4) Fat/lipids are needed for normal hormonal functions throughout the body There you go, choose the two you like :)
