The genes for brown eyes (BB) are dominant.
The genes for blue eyes (bb) are recessive.
The offspring receive one gene from each parent.
In cases where they cross breed the offspring will have brown eyes and their genes will carry the (Bb) blue eye recessive trait.
In the case where a brown eyed person with a recessive blue gene (Bb) cross breeds with a brown eyed person with no recessive (BB) all their offspring will be brown eyed, one in four has a chance of having the blue recessive trait. (BB) (BB) (BB) (Bb)
In cases where a brown eyed person with a recessive blue gene (Bb) cross breeds with a blue eyed person (bb) two of four of their offspring will be brown eyed with a recessive blue (Bb) and two of four will be blue eyed (bb) (bb)
Genetics state that when two people with the recessive trait of blue eyes cross breed they have a 1 in 4 chance of the offspring having blue eyes.(BB) (Bb) (Bb) (bb).
As you can see from the above, any time there is a dominant in the mix, that is the colour that appears.
