Why are the process of mitosis and meiosis needed?

It is a key part of offspring creation

Reproduction by mitosis duplicates?

Haploid cells use mitosis for asexual reproduction..Meiosis is used in animal cell division to create haploid cells for reproduction

In sexual reproduction what fraction of the offspring's genes is contributed by each parent?

Depending on the type of organism and how many chromosomes it has, all of them come from the parent when the organism splits in the process of mitosis.

List the key differences between mitosis and meiosis?

Mitosis is the process in which a cell's nucleus replicates and divides. Mitosis results in two cells that are genetically identical. These cells are necessary for growth and replacement of worn out cells, as well as for asexual reproduction (reproduction without eggs and sperm) that takes place in some organisms. Meiosis is the process of cell division in which the cell's genetic information is randomly mixed and divided into sex cells, each having half the normal number of chromosomes. These cells can later combine to form offspring with the full number of chromosomes, but each new offspring will have a unique genetic inheritance.

Why is the offspring not identical to parent in asexual reproduction?

The offspring is not identical to parent in sexual reproduction because sexual reproduction produces an offspring that is genetically different from the parents. ---- The answer above is actually incorrect. The offspring is identical genetically to the parent because mitosis produces cells genetically identical to the parent cell or cells. But the offspring itself is not identical.

Is asexual reproduction is?

In asexual reproduction, one parent produces genetically identical offspring by mitosis.

Is asexual reproduction?

In asexual reproduction, one parent produces genetically identical offspring by mitosis.

When do we have 46 chromosomes in meiosis or mitosis?

we have 46 chromosomes in Mitosis during interphase when the DNA doubles, but really Humans have 23 chromosomes. Meiosis is reproduction and goes through Mitosis twice but skips interphase the second time and creates gametes(sex cells) -Marina20

Can an offspring look like just one parent?

because of the chromosomes the parents will give 23 of their chromosomes to the baby born and then that baby has 46 chromosomes in all.this method is called mitosis.

Why don't cyanobacteria and bacteria reproduce by mitosis?

The reason bacteria do not reproduce by mitosis is because bacteria do not contain chromosomes. There are numerous types of bacteria.

Why do cells need to double their chromosomes before mitosis starts?

They are in need of reproduction.

What is the phase of mitosis in which a cell grows and prepares for reproduction by copying its chromosomes?

It is interphase

How do the results of mitosis and meiosis differ?

the amount of chromosomes in a cell. meiosis is used in sexual reproduction and mitosis is just making more cells. chromosomes in a human after meiosis=24; mitosis=48.
